I believe a loophole has been discovered in the rues that should be addressed. In the topic about slewed hulls Mr. Lemke replied on Chads site that if the boat measured in- that is if it fit into a 48" X48" box- then it was legal. If the owner of a "slewed" typed multi then used the radio to slew the hulls creating a longer boat it would not violate the rules. I think it most assuredly does violate the rules since the spirit of the rules was that the boat always remain 48" X 48" even in saling trim. This is important because a Trapeze Power Ballast System could potentially be designed to allow a 6' beam or more! The system would retract to four feet when centered and would pass measurement.Additionally, if this princible is going to be allowed I intend to research what would be involved in having the TPBS move AFT of the transom. Further, hydrofoils gain a big advantage if they use retractable T-foils since the foils could be retracted for measurement and when deployed add 6" to 12" to the overall beam. The advantage to a foiler is that the wider it is the less drag it develops with zero negative effect on tacking... This is a serious issue and I think a ruling is called for by the Acting Class Secretary. At least two people are working with/on some form of movable ballast and they need to know the answer now. I tried to post this under the "rules " topic but the machine said I couldn't.

Why has there been no response to my previous question regarding the rules?

The "F-48 Rules" thread is a post only thread - not a discussion thread. This is to provide an easy way of finding Class Rules and/or interpretations as they are made without undo replies or off-topic posts.
Posting in the general area seems an appropriate place to carry on discussions and questions, while reserving the "F-48 Rules " section strictly for rules and class announcements.
