It seems to me that by the replies coming in on the other forum that the sail material that is being used around the world on multi's is quite a bit heavier than what we are using here. We have found that 50 microns is about right for light airs and 75 microns is good for the heavier winds, at least over here that is.
What do you use?
The material that we are using is becoming very scarce and we need to find something else.

Peter - I decided to move the "sail topic" to a new thread, since the other was about physical hull shapes, lengths and specifications.
In the MultiONE construction photos, the mainsail in the photo of the boat rigged as a uni-rig (main only), I used 2 mil drafting film. It was a bit heavy, and I never was able to get rid of the curl from being rolled up on a tube. Not sure how our dimensions compare with yours. (Mil vs. micron)
The pink and white sail set (photo - hanging on door) is 1.5 oz. (per yard - 36 inches x 50 inches wide) and has been treated at factory to make it a bit stiffer. It is nylon, and ripstop (fine cross threads woven in) but probably will stretch a bit during/after use in strong winds. I also have some .75 oz. "soft" ripstop nylon, but it is really too soft and stretchy. IN a tube, I also have some 2 oz. Dacron (big boat material) that I was able to purchase through Shore Sails in New Jersey - and I have several different weights of Dacron cloth given to me by North Sails - but not sure of weight - I don't think they marked the samples as I requested. I have not used either of the Dacron fabrics yet, but feel they will probably make good heavy-weather sails. A bit too heavy for light air. Tri-Spi seems to be big up this way.
You might try contacting Alan Hayes - New Zealand, as he builds his own sails. I don't have a web site handy, but he is a registered member on Chads site. You could send him a Personal Message asking !
